Fire's Chill Pick - October 2025

Happy Halloween everyone!! It’s Fire back with the monthly chill pick article!! Unfortunately I don’t have any spooky Chill Picks to highlight here, but I do have a song I think would absolutely go off at any Halloween party this year. So what’s the song?

BLACKPINK - JUMP

Release: July 11, 2025

Genres: K-Pop, Hypertechno, Dance-Pop, Hard Techno, Jersey Club, Pop Rap, Euro Trance, Romanian Popcorn

At this point I don’t think I need to introduce BLACKPINK to you guys. You know these girls, right? They’re a K-pop girl group who have (had?) a very aggressive stanbase (as all K-pop groups tend to have, really)? I’ll be frank, I never considered myself a BLACKPINK fan (please don’t kill me BLACKPINK stans). I liked one song from them prior to this, the Lady Gaga collab “Sour Candy” from 2020. And honestly for the most part, I found them really obnoxious. But they split up on solo ventures last year, Rose easily seeing the most solo success of the members. That said, they got back together for this song which I’m honestly unsure if they are reuniting or if this was just a one-off. But anyway, I heard “JUMP” on a pop station when I was traveling around the country nearly every week for intensives and holy SHIT, “JUMP” is easily the most I’ve ever liked a BLACKPINK song.

It goes off so hard, all the members shine really strongly here; Rose's very good singing opening up the track, Jisoo and Jennie both having a very flamboyant and flashy edge to their accenting backup vocals, and LISA’s rap flow that ordinarily doesn’t work for me all just shine here. This in part is thanks to the incredible production, which is flashy in signature BLACKPINK fashion without feeling obnoxious thanks to the Romanian Popcorn influences.

If there’s an issue I take with this, however, this song is way too short. As soon as the song starts to kick in with the best part, when the bombastic kick is pounding, it feels like it’s trying to build up into a big payoff and then it just...ends. More could’ve been done here, it’s like it’s the movie trailer version of itself. That said, “JUMP” works more than well enough on its strengths to go off at any party (trust me, I played this song multiple times through my speakers and my adrenalin goes up every time). So I’ll give this song a very strong 8/10 for everything about the production just going off so hard and playing to all 4 members’ strengths as performers, but this could’ve been a solid 9 if it went on for even just 30 seconds longer. Yeah, this is a surefire banger that’s guaranteed to go off at any Halloween parties this year, highly recommended!! Until my next article, happy Halloween and remember to keep it Fire!!
