Fire's Chill Pick - May 2025

Hey everyone!! It’s Fire, back with the monthly chill pick article!! And boy, do I have a fun one to share; though getting the cover art in here was excruciating, thanks a lot, Spotify. But what song did I go through all that trouble for?

Sabrina Carpenter - 15 Minutes

Release: February 24, 2025

Genres: Dance-pop, disco

Sabrina Carpenter really put in the work in 2024 to fully win me over on her music; and I still absolutely love a lot of her work from last year. Every time she released what I thought was her peak, she topped it a few months or so later. It started with “Read Your Mind” in 2023, then came “Espresso”, then came “Please Please Please” (though now I think I do prefer “Espresso” again lol), and then was “Juno”.

Now with “15 Minutes” off the deluxe edition of Short N’ Sweet released back in February, I'm admittedly a bit torn on whether I prefer this or “Juno”. But the fact that it’s such a close competition is a testament to how much I love this song. There were 4 bonus tracks on this deluxe album: “15 Minutes”, “Busy Woman”, “Bad Reviews”, and a Dolly Parton remix of “Please Please Please” (the latter of which is...good, but I really don’t think it works nearly as well as it should). “Busy Woman” and “15 Minutes” were my two favorite bonus tracks but ultimately “15 Minutes” kept me returning to it because of the lyrics. The song is basically Sabrina knowing that as a hot blonde famous woman, she only has her “15 minutes of fame” before she gets tossed aside. She knows that the industry just sees her as this dumb airhead popstar with no brain between her eyes, and she’s fully gonna take advantage of that with plans for when her time runs out; she might leak some pictures or even just say something batshit crazy. And Sabrina sells this song so well, you believe her when she says she’ll do it, don’t you make her. And then we got the production, I really love the disco flourishes making it all the more fun. In other words, this song is absolutely incredible and I’ll enjoy all 15 minutes (or more) of Sabrina Carpenter’s presence in the pop music scene. I give this a pretty strong 9/10, this is absolutely up there among her best ever songs, highly recommended!!
