Fire's Chill Pick - Apr 2025
Hey everyone!! It’s that time of month again, it’s another Fire’s Chill Pick article!! Truth be told, I had a couple different ideas for songs I wanted to showcase here. So what’s this month’s chill pick?
Ariana Grande - warm
Release: March 28, 2025
Genres: Pop, Dance-Pop, Electropop, Synthpop, Synthwave, Alt-Pop
Yeah, last month, Ariana Grande released the deluxe edition of her album eternal sunshine. I liked the deluxe edition about as much as I liked the standard edition, which is to say it’s great. Since I really don’t see the point in reviewing a deluxe edition of an album that I already reviewed the standard edition for, I figured that I might as well review one of the tracks in my monthly chill pick article!! The deluxe edition added 6 bonus tracks to the tracklist, and “warm” is easily my favorite one. It’s sonically biting from “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)”’s formula a little, from the keyboard flourishes to the more danceable beat. But “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” is still my favorite song on the album overall, so I can’t say it’s much of a complaint. I will say that “warm” is not quite better than “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” because the production sounds a bit compressed, not really allowing the song to sound as bright (pun not intended) as it could’ve been. So on a sonic level, this already sounds great, but Ariana really takes it to another level because she’s still got a beautiful voice. Lyrically, I didn’t pay much attention at first since the composition was already pulling me in - but the writing’s strong too. Ariana reflects on how, even though she can handle life on her own, having someone she can lean on emotionally makes a big difference. Overall, I think this is a light 9/10, if the production was a bit brighter, it might’ve elevated it to being one of the best songs in Ariana’s discography. As is, it’s incredible and I highly recommend you to check it out, even if it’s to my understanding that “twilight zone” is the one getting a single push.
