Friday's Chill Pick - 9/10/21
Hey guys, welcome back to Fire's Flaming Hot Takes, where it's time for another Friday's Chill Pick? I already said the song I'm reviewing today in my best of 2012 list...so let's not waste any more time with it.
Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me
Release: July 17, 2015
Genre: Synth-pop

Remember Carly Rae Jepsen? The "Call Me Maybe" girl? She had two overly cheesy and super fun hits in 2012. Well, three years later, she would release a song that would absolutely astonish every single critic I can think of. And the fact that "I Really Like You" was the lead single instead of this will probably irritate me for eternity, because if this song was the lead single, it would've absolutely smashed. Despite not being a massive hit anywhere, "Run Away With Me" has received universal acclaim, many calling it one of the best songs of the 2010s. And as for my thoughts? Well, yeah, "Run Away With Me" is an amazing song. The saxophone riff really push that first dose of adrenaline in the song, and then the tight as hell beat and the bassline, it's pure euphoria. Yeah, I do wish it was slightly faster in tempo, it really would've pushed this over the top for me, but it's such a minor complaint to an otherwise awesome track. The song screams of teenage nostalgia, it's pure happiness and potency all sold by Carly, who delivered some of her best vocals I can think of. Her vocals are incredibly powerful on this, she really delivered her full talent on this. Genuinely amazing song, deserved so much more chart success. If you still view Carly as the cheesy "Call Me Maybe" girl, well, give this a spin, and prepare to have your mind blown. It's a 9/10 from me, an excellent song indeed.
