Friday's Chill Picks - 8/20/21
Hello guys, welcome back to Fire's Flaming Hot Takes. And today, I'm gonna introduce a new segment called Friday's Chill Picks. In this segment, I choose two songs that haven't received any attention in the US and discuss them. It can be released whenever and the song couldn't have landed on a Hot 100 year-end list. So time to start with our first two!

SJ & Tasji - Aftertouch
Release: August 14, 2020
Genre: EDM
If you're looking to find any information about either SJ or Tasji, you're really out of luck, because they both have incredibly low profiles. I can definitely say that Tasji has jumped on a number of different EDM tracks, and I managed to find this song towards the beginning of the year out of sheer curiosity. And god damn, "Aftertouch" is a genuinely excellent house track. Tasji's vocals are especially dreamy on this, and the beat is extremely solid. But really, the star of the show here is the production. The synth is quite heavy and the bass supports it so well. The chord progression and melody are super ambient and sound super awesome. The piano sounds awesome, the backing vocals are perfectly placed, and the entire song is such a vibe. Also helps that this song is remarkably low burn rate, I'm still not sick of this song at all and I've played it a lot. This song is an absolutely perfect summer night bop, it's such a bop. Overall, yeah I love this song quite a lot. Definitely worth a spin, check it out! (10/10 - perfect)
Claire Ridgely - Alll I Ever Wanted
Release: November 13, 2020
Genre: Pop / Dance-Pop
True story, I actually found this song back in December of 2020, when it had sub-1K views. And as of writing it managed to rack up 5K views? Huh, not really complaining though, because "All I Ever Wanted" is a banger and definitely deserves to be more well-known. For context, Claire Ridgely has mainly appeared on a lot of EDM songs, but she recently released her debut EP "Flowers For A Friend", and this song is the best song from it. And on its own, its a very basic song. The production is insanely minimalistic and it sounds exactly like something that would get ungodly levels of overplay on pop radio. But really, "All I Ever Wanted" works because of its simplicity. The beat is incredibly bouncy, infectious, and fun. Claire Ridgely's vocals are extremely carefree and lightweight, which fit this song incredibly well. And paying attention to a few of the minor details in the production, they're little details, but they work. The guitar lick is super breezy, and I can hear some strings here and there too, really add to that fun vibe of the song. It's definitely a simplistic song at its core, but it's incredibly cute and breezy, and honestly the perfect song to play during the spring and summer. It's just pure fun and nostalgia about wanting to have a kick of adrenaline, and for how simple this song is, it does provide a nice little energy boost. Yeah I love this song quite a bit, definitely worth your time if you haven't heard it yet - check it out! (9/10 - amazing)
